HEARING SCREENING CAPACITY

Hearing is essential to communication, education, employment, and quality of life. Yet thousands of children and adults in Ghana live with preventable or treatable hearing loss simply because they lack access to hearing care.

One Less Drop is working to expand access to hearing screening by providing diagnostic services that identify hearing loss early and connect patients with the care they need. Since the beginning of our partnership with Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, our team has screened hundreds of elementary age patients for hearing loss. By understanding the hearing needs of the communities we serve, we can better prioritize resources, provide appropriate interventions, and develop sustainable programs with the greatest long-term impact.

For some individuals, treatment may be as simple as hearing aids or medical management. Others may benefit from specialized surgical procedures. Identifying these needs is the first step toward restoring hearing and improving lives.

As part of our broader commitment to hearing health, a generous donation from the Munkee Foundation enabled One Less Drop to provide Cape Coast Teaching Hospital with an operating microscope. This equipment has become an essential tool for training Dr. Peter Appiah-Thompson and other local surgeons in advanced otologic procedures, helping expand access to specialized ear surgery for patients throughout the region.
