Our Story
What began as an exploratory mission in 2014 has grown into more than a decade of service and partnership.
Origins
Our first trip brought Jonathan Curtis, Jeremy Meier, and Doug Holland to Accra, Ghana, and Freetown, Sierra Leone. During that visit, we had the opportunity to meet Dr. Peter Appiah-Thompson, a surgeon-in-training preparing to serve at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital in Ghana.
That introduction became the foundation for a lasting partnership.
Over the years, One Less Drop has returned to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital alongside an expanding group of health care professionals. What began with a small team has grown into an ongoing effort to strengthen surgical and anesthesia education and care locally.
Mission
Through these partnerships, One Less Drop has provided more than 5,000 hours of surgical instruction and donated more than $100,000 worth of surgical equipment. Dozens of surgeons and health care professionals have benefited from training, education, and collaboration with visiting specialists.
Our goal has never been simply to provide care for a few patients during a short visit. We want to help build sustainable care, by cultivating the knowledge, resources, and relationships that allow local providers to deliver better care long after we leave.
There will always be more needs than we can meet. But we believe that should not discourage us from meeting the needs that are within our reach.
We may only be one drop—but without us, the ocean would be one drop less.
